FULL SCAN OF MEISTERSTÜCKBUCH DER SCHNEIDERZUNFT ZU SCHWABACH

I am about to faint. I check every so often to see if there are documents I did not see in previous searches, or if new documents are available- there is so much available to us that is buried behind “popular” sites in searches.

So you can see why I am sure this is where Kohler got his pattern bases from.

Not sure why he put the bodice in one piece but then the book has just finished downloading for me and I am too excited to not share before fully digesting 🙂

Oooh, interesting, I saw it suggested it was for a bride! But no, I was not suggesting he perfectly copied them, just they did come from somewhere. It was suggested in many costuming forums over the years he was basically making things up!
I have the condensed German edition of his book (digital, low quality) I keep hearing he had a much longer edition that had the sources he used but I haven't been able to locate confirmation. :/

The closed bodice, if I am remembering correctly is for a bride. But the low necked is for a bauerin.

In the late 1800's there was a surge of interest in the history of costume. They created a group that was based in Dresden. Up until WWII, there was a schnittbuch and even miniatures garments from the 16th century still in existence. From what I can tell, after looking, is that these treasures may have been lost in the bombing. I am pretty sure Kohler knew about this group and had access to items that do not exist anymore. It's one of my research hopes that I can narrow down a little more what happened to these things. They are not in the archives.
