So I have been missing a lot, I mean a lot of group projects for several reasons (at least the ones I "should" be able to see.)
So here is a super fast summary of why:
1) Livejournal only shows posts in reverse published order, and the number of current comments. It shares in order so if anyone comments after the post first shows up no one can see it unless they click on the post.
I have missed comments this way even though I read my feed each and every day.
2) Facebook does show comments friends have replied on, and will re-show a post in a feed- but it chooses what it thinks you'll enjoy. So I've been getting lots of private personal posts and comments and likes of pages but alomost nothing costume community related.
3) I am not connected with everyone from lj on facebook.
But I have genuinely not seen any of the FB groups show up (and get errors clicking on the links kindly re-shared!.) And it is a mix of these three.
So the best way to open up a group but keep it restricted (if that makes sense) is in a post not a comment tree. On lj it'll be definitely seen, and in fb at least it has a decent chance of being seen when people reply!
But yeah I also don't use mobile versions of anything- my hands do not work with phones. Instagram is actually amazing for me because it is such a light app and I have a fair bit of control in being able to share. trying to get my blog to share IG posts too. There is a widget,

Date: 2016-12-23 05:02 pm (UTC)2.create a special friends group -"costumers" and click on that feed instead of your usual "friends" You'll see many more posts of costume folks that way.
Pretty sure we're friends on FB, and I'm sure others would be happy to friend you if you put out the call. ;)

Date: 2016-12-23 07:36 pm (UTC)2) FB still chooses no matter what selection of people you see.
I stopped following groups because I didn't want them in my feed. Now? I get "Suggested Items From Your Groups" twice in a single viewing so I am made to see things I asked not to.
The group suggestions are funnily enough all sales posts.
(I'm about to upload some pics from just today to show how fb also messes with what comments you see)
The point is if anyone, including me, wants people to see anything to make it available- not expect people to scramble around looking for things that are not equally visible- heck even just saying in a post "See comments here" with a link, or not, is going to help. Comments sections are fun but they are part of how these things become exclusive. And it's okay to want to limit things to friends, so long as we don't then say "you should have tried harder" to others :)
I had to have a very early night so
