I did manage to hem and resew the channels so, hooray! I think I will wind up top stitching all the channels a perfectly even distance one it is fully made up. That will make the effort of buying and cutting more steel for the very bottom hoops a little more palatable!

So that means I can use the overlapped steels for my farthingale and Reinette hoops.

Yay!

Not the most interesting of (re)sewing tasks but well worth the effort

I wound up doing a bit of damage to my hands, even with cheating and using a box cutter (I have a few little nicks in the fabric that need to be repaired but it was that or start over again!)
But it made a huge difference, and now the hoops are getting stay tapes sewn in place today :)

It must be hard to avoid doing damage with any activity that involves using your hands. I'm coming to appreciate more what you're dealing with the worse my own hands get. I currently have numbness (edged with "pins-and-needles") around all but the very tip of my left thumb, and part way across my hand. It's been nearly a month now, but it is reducing and at least there's no actual pain involved, so I'm considering myself lucky.

Good luck with getting the stay tapes fixed in place.
